It's good that you recognize what you will have to "give up" to homeschool - there is so much that is gained, but there is definitely a "cost." You will do a fabulous job - of this I have no doubt!Vicki Caruanahttp://www.vickicaruana.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439940873863680112.post-82431357202726729122010-08-12T15:08:53.471-04:002010-08-12T15:08:53.471-04:00I use the Michigan Department of Educations "...I use the Michigan Department of Educations "Grade Level Content Expectations" to make sure my kids are where they're supposed to be. I, obviously, am not at all familiar with Virginia's, but if you want to use Michigan's, I can help you navigate the site. It's an awesome resource.

I'm glad you're homeschooling. :) Now you just have to cloth diaper the new baby's little bum, and I won't have anything else to influence you with!!! :-D

Love you!Lizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10135124165793829174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439940873863680112.post-46452449112314667912010-08-06T06:40:58.770-04:002010-08-06T06:40:58.770-04:00Hi,

We concentrated on his behaviour and social abilities and now this is good we are looking at academics. If I had home schooled we wouldnt have needed to look at behaviour so much. I remember when he was about 5 and he was beggin me to have school at home.

I wished I had known more about home schooling back then.

Good luck with what you are doing. Follow your heart. Happy kids learn, sad kids dont and I know that thru experience xxSara Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16741008340503019303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439940873863680112.post-53500293901743155202010-08-05T16:58:08.875-04:002010-08-05T16:58:08.875-04:00well once hunter gets enrolled into 6th grade you ...well once hunter gets enrolled into 6th grade you have have him tested and if he tests much higher he could skip grades. remember brandon Mccarron? I think I'm more concerned with him being way AHEAD of a typical 5th grader because if he is comfortable with subjects enough to move ahead of the schedules that other children his age are learning in school, why not? But we'll see when the time comes. I have already written down things he should know before entering kindergarten and we're slowly chipping away at the list. :)Emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17609104343147019653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439940873863680112.post-44928677665074630842010-08-05T16:28:09.537-04:002010-08-05T16:28:09.537-04:00I think it is a great idea to home school and this...I think it is a great idea to home school and this is coming from someone that is in the K-12 field for the past three years. I am ashamed of the current system that is in place. Home schooling does not need to be isolated from other children in the neighborhood. I just wish kids today and myself included were outside more. Homeschooling is not taboo and starting Hunter in preschool activities will help with his learning. I do recommend to you to take a look at the benchmarks that students in the K-12 setting in your neighborhood are supposed to be learning from K-5 for instance. You can find that typically at your state's website. So that Hunter will not be lagging behind in either his last year at an elementary setting or a middle school setting.Cassandra Fitzgeraldhttp://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/CasFit0611noreply@blogger.com
